BAR HARBOR, MAINE
Ah, Bar Harbor. Or as I call it, my occupational home away from home. Most of our work on MDI is of the residential variety, so it's nice to change things up with a small retail refurbishment.
Most anyone that's ever set foot in Bar Harbor knows the famous Geddy's (one of my favorite places to grab a burger and fries) and, of course, Geddy's Down Under, their retail store. Being a popular attraction for both visitors and locals, the place gets a lot of foot traffic and, consequently, commensurate floor wear. (I always remind business owners that wear on the floors is a good sign...so long as it's not concentrated in front of the Returns or Complaints departments.) After extensive prep, we stained the concrete floor and applied glaze coats, mixing Shark Grip (a nonslip additive) into the glaze.
In the restaurant upstairs, we also repainted some trim and gave one of the bathrooms a facelift. This entailed repairing drywall, retaping a couple corners, and then performing a full repaint of walls, trim and the metal door.
The next time you're in Bar Harbor, be sure to pop in for a burger and a beer. (And feel free to compliment the floor if you're so inclined.) We just may run into each other.
